Dr. Shona Goodall, a Clinical Psychologist with over 20 years of expertise in working with children and families in the NHS and Private Practice has developed a new course for parents with a Sheffield based Psychology provider.
Co-Constructing Minds helps parents to increase their understanding of children and their development, as well as reflecting on their parenting and how it has been shaped by their own beliefs and experiences. The new outlook will help parents to make informed choices, understand their family dynamics and to parent the way they want to.
Dr Goodall explains ‘the course is not about telling you how to parent, but about helping you to develop your own parenting manual to parent the way you want to, and in a way that is helpful for your child’.
The course has been based on a Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) model; which enables individuals to break free of existing habits and cycles, and empower them.
The course is being launched in collaboration with M Downs and Associates, a Sheffield based Psychology provider, led by Consultant Clinical Psychologist Dr Maria Downs.
Dr Downs explains ‘We are really pleased to be collaborating with Dr Goodall in launching this new and valuable service for families. As a Psychology provider we often have children and families come through our doors at the point of needing help with their mental health, and this course is an early opportunity to effectively deal with challenges before they get to that stage.’

It is hoped that the course will empower parents to be confident, authentic parents equipped with the knowledge and insight to handle future parenting challenges in a way that works for them and their children.
“At its core, this course is about finding the parenting approach that is truly your own,” says DGoodall. “I don’t tell parents what to do; I help them discover what works best for them and their children.”
The first course starts January 27th 2025, and will take place at M Downs and Associates, Barracks House, Langsett Road, Hillsborough. The course runs over five dates and as an introductory offer is priced at £450. It can be booked at Co-Constructing Minds | M Downs
