Frequently Asked Questions
Who are M Downs and Associates? We are a team of therapists and practitioner psychologists providing a range of psychological services, including therapy, court reports, training and workshops.
Who can join? Our associates are a mixture of therapists and practitioner psychologists and provide a range of services for both adults and children. Including therapy (online and in person), court reports, training and workshops. Get in touch to see how we can help you to take the next step towards working the way you want.
Do I need experience to provide court reports? We require you to have experience of providing psychological reports, but full mentoring can be provided in court reports. This will include becoming familiar with the terminology, template reports and preparing you for attending court as a witness if necessary.
How will I be paid? It is the role of M Downs and Associates to invoice the customer, but our associates are paid directly by us whether we receive prompt payment or not. Therefore reducing the risk to you, and ensuring you know how much you will be paid and when.
How quickly will I be expected to turn a report around? This is dependent on factors such as level of experience, how many people are to be assessed and how complex the case may be. We would discuss together what would be a realistic turnaround time, taking into account things like mentoring sessions and proof reading.
Do you provide proof-reading? Yes. All our reports are proof read, to ensure feedback and quality control.
Do you provide room hire? We have spacious, comfortable rooms based within our offices in Barracks House, Hillsborough, Sheffield. Our rooms are available to hire, exclusively for our associates. Included is secure entry, lift access, onsite car parking, accessible toilets, coffee and tea making facilities, wifi, comfortable sofas and armchairs and a desk.
What is an associate? An associate is a team member who joins us on a self-employed basis. That doesn't mean you will be going it alone though. We offer support through mentoring, administration services, marketing, invoicing, proof reading, room hire and more.
Can I be an associate alongside another job? Absolutely. Our associates work in a variety of other settings, including academia, charity sector, private practice, hospitals, community mental health teams and CAMH's. You can work flexibly around other commitments, in a way that works for you.
Can I just provide therapy? Yes. We welcome therapists with a range of backgrounds and therapeutic models to contact us to find out more, as we are always looking to expand upon the services we provide.
Will I be paid for travel time? When travelling to undertake assessments for the courts, travel time is chargeable. The fee you receive is in line with the rates set by Legal Aid and you, the associate, receive 100% of this.
Can I work remotely? Yes. Our associates are based in a variety of locations, and we receive enquiries nationwide. We also offer online therapy. Assessments for court reports must be done in person, but you will be reimbursed for travel time and you choose which locations you are able to cover.
How do I enquire? Email us at jointheteam@mdownsandassociates.co.uk or call us on 01143035053, to request an information pack. We will then schedule a call with a seniour team member to find out more about what you are looking for and to discuss in more detail the opportunities we have available.
